Sabesp has just won another title, this time with worldwide visibility. In an event held in California, our company was celebrated as one of the hundred best IT companies in the international award known as ‘CIO 100 Awards 2018’. The announcement of the winners, which included exponents such as Deloitte, General Motors, IBM Corporation, Suez North America, Toyota Motor North America, Unisys Corporation and United Airlines, brought Sabesp as the only Brazilian company to appear on the list. Most importantly, the winning companies’ projects demonstrate business value, not just IT benefits.

Organized by the International Data Group (IDG), which is headquartered in Boston, it is an annual award that has been in existence for 31 years, the first time that Sabesp has participated. The ‘CIO 100’ festivities culminated with a gala dinner at the CIO 100 Symposium & Awards, a world-class meeting held by the most influential companies in the industry. Over the course of three days, the symposium, which took place from August 13 to 15, brought together nearly 300 CIOs and business executives who engaged in panel discussions, interactive workshops and more. Leadership, innovation and business strategy conversations dominated the open event agenda with a special lecture by Luke Williams, professor at NYU Stern School of Business, international bestselling author, who highlighted how disruptive thinking and innovation can stimulate business transformation, a matter that was discussed at the Sabesp strategic realignment event, held last week at Espaço Vida. Sabesp adopts Innowera with Nalbatech

Sabesp, one of the largest basic sanitation companies in the world, hired NalbaTech with the objective of promoting improvements in data management in SAP ERP. For the project, the Innowera platform was implemented, designed to map, update and integrate data from different sources.

Sabesp’s objective was to have a comprehensive solution to make improvements and new features in data management in ERP without the need for major investments in development and customizations in the SAP system.

Preparing for eSocial was the first stage of the project and involved cleaning up the data of more than 17 thousand company employees.

In January 2018, the second stage began, involving immobilization.

Based on the ability of the Innowera tool to sanitize and manage data with management systems and the proximity of the eSocial effective date, Sabesp opted to start by treating and preparing employees’ social security and labor information.

“We put the platform to use very quickly and found that 41% of employees had some inconsistency in their registration, which could have a major impact on the material to be sent to eSocial, which could generate considerable delays and fines,” says Carvalheiro.

The Innowera tool also allowed the construction of macros in MS-Excel to facilitate the correction and adaptation of employee data for reloading in SAP.

“Activities that would take several months were carried out in a few days. As a result, we had a significant reduction in costs and time ”, points out Carvalheiro.

Sanitation and data comparison, pointing out errors for correction according to the rules and layout of e-Social (which has about 200 fields for each employee), as well as for any other legal and business obligations, are among the biggest benefits , according to him.

Sabesp serves 367 municipalities in the State of São Paulo, benefiting more than 27.7 million people with water supply and 21.4 million people with sewage collection.

Earlier this month, the company announced another project developed with support from Nalbatech.

Sabesb contracted the company’s managed services to detect vulnerabilities and security flaws in software applications during its own or third party application development. The initiative focuses on the use of the BugScout platform.

Sabesp adopts solution to evaluate software security and quality

The bugScout platform, developed by Nalbatech, has been a partner of the information security team of the basic sanitation company Sabesp, which serves more than 300 municipalities in the State of São Paulo. The tool detects vulnerabilities and security flaws in software applications during its own development or that of third-party applications, to ensure the adequacy of the systems to the company’s policies.

Since 2014, when the project was started, any new system that enters the company’s data center has been subjected to a rigorous analysis of source code to detect vulnerabilities. More than 1,000 applications have already been analyzed and the flaws most found in third-party applications are related to the exposure of sensitive information, weak encryption, breach of trust limits and basic errors in the source code.Daniel Bocalão, Manager of the Connectivity and Information Security Department – (CIC) at Sabesp, explains that the project started four years ago with a first version that evaluated only security requirements. At the end of last year, with an update, the tool also started to analyze the quality and performance of each new application.

“Any request for improvement of the system module that arises because of a regulation or law, for example, goes through the solution”, comments the executive, in an interview with Computerworld Brasil.

Sabesp’s IT infrastructure is composed of a considerable variety of systems to serve various internal and external processes. In field operations, Internet of Things (IoT) devices collect in real time the data on water and sewage services delivered to the population, which involves the identification of consumption, changes or deviations in the consumption pattern, leakage potential, among numerous other variants, producing a large amount of data that needs to be protected. In addition, the company has administrative management systems, such as billing, CRM, asset control, supplies and HR – all pass the vulnerability tests required by the company.

Bocalão comments that the main advantage is knowing the risks before production. “We were able to anticipate vulnerabilities and fix them at the time of development. The results are intangible, as we are able to show the supplier that he is vulnerable and avoid problems in the future. The feeling is that we are safer ”, he adds.

Sabesp expands project with TmaxSoft

TmaxSoft, a Korean multinational company providing software for IT infrastructure, and Nalbatech, a Spanish multinational company providing IT solutions, announce the renewal of their contract with Sabesp.

As a result of bidding, the negotiation enables the supply of Tibero, TmaxSoft’s database, with the objective of supporting the applications of the legacy environment and the migration of new applications to this environment. Sabesp contracted Tibero Enterprise Edition 6.0 and Tibero Active Cluster (TAC) licenses. The investment in the technological solution in 2016 was over R $ 2.3 million and for 2017 the value is R $ 3.3 million.

Developed internally by Sabesp’s Collection Department, the SIC system started operating in 2000, based on a database that, until then, had met the company’s demands. Over the years, new features needed to be included, which required the evolution of the adopted solution that no longer supported them. Even because it is an old version, the database no longer had the technical support of the manufacturer, a feature that represents a great risk for the company.

Sabesp decided to start a bidding process for the migration of the environment and, in 2016, the company opted to update the database by opening a bidding process which Tibero won. After one year of using the TmaxSoft database TmaxSoft, Sabesp identified the success and stability of the SIC, as there was no impact whatsoever, which provided a security environment to be able to migrate other applications.

Taking into account this positive scenario with the acquisition of the TmaxSoft solution, after one year, Sabespdecided to migrate more systems and increase the Tiberoenvironment by hiring new licenses. In fact, the company opted for a high availability environment when using the Tibero Active Cluster (TAC), which provides business continuity without risks and with high performance.

The solution hired by Sabesp is a new database option for the Brazilian market, as it has local support, integration with other suppliers’ versions, lower cost and quick migration.

Nalbatech, TmaxSoft do Brasil’s business partner, was the winner of Sabesp’s bidding process and was responsible for supplying licenses, implementing and supporting the Tibero project on the company’s systems.

Nalbatech carried out the total migration of data to Tibero in just 1h30, without risks or major changes in the codes and with the SIC running at full performance.

In addition to enabling the evolution of the system and having the technical support sought by the company, the solution offers the possibility of simplified and accessible virtualization, another objective of the Sabesp team. The solution allows virtual environment licensing without the need for physical environment licensing,which reduces costs, since there is no need to invest in hardware and new licenses. This is a differential of TmaxSoft compared to other options on the market. In short, the adoption of Tibero brings several benefits such as:
